The HydroCoil design is unique.

Innovations used for the most consistent energy transfer: 

    • varying coil angles of this helical turbine -->
      • to extract and incrementally  convert kinetic energy of water inside this micro hydro electric turbine, which sequentially captures linear energy of water transitting the gradual to steeper coils
      • mathematical plus the practical
      • design includes key and not so obvious physics principles
    • gravity is the energy source for HydroCoil turbines
      • potential energy in head or existing elevated storage
      • kinetic energy in water flow, water treatment, down low head dams, cascades, tidal change.
      • plus a pump?  No, just for the demo.  Don't need a high pressure or high velocity circuit as with some horizontal, in- pipe, high-head turbines 
  • outer containment cylinder:
  • to focus energy of pipe outflow/ sluiceway/ irrigation canal/ river/ ocean current
  • essentially all of the water contacts the turbine coils
  • internal strength in its torsional dynamism
  • water engages the coiled vane
  • root torsional bending stress is constantly distributed, which
    • helps minimize vane thickness & its concave base fillet
    • advantageous to durability and to cost factor
  • side vents (optional, for variable flow conditions)
    • for early water exit from turbine if momentary pressure backup during current changes
  • this is NOT an Archimedes screw; it outperformed an Archimedes screw early-on
  • this is NOT a modification of traditional turbines such as Kaplan, crossflow, or Pelton wheel

Turbines connected side-to-side in cluster or module, like a honeycomb.  Easily attached and installed.  Single unit removal for service.

Through the assistance of the engineering departments at Drexel, Villanova, and Cooper Union universities 

Working with 3-D Technologies of Avondale, PA (
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/3dtech ), the design underwent internal improvements.  Definitive demonstrations and certification were conducted April 2-8, 2009.  Results were more than 150% of expectations, with efficiency beyond the norm for low head hydro.  See short excerpt of demonstration video (p.3).


HydroCoil turbines use patented designs (U.S.A. and abroad), have few moving parts, and incorporate low-cost injection molding.
